We are immersed in the world’s methodologies and mindsets and yet we are called to be in this world but not of this world. Although challenging, there is hope that this is not only possible but is actually part of our calling as ambassadors. We will explore how we reflect Jesus in a manner that aligns with our faith and opens the door to opportunity for sharing.

Scripture Reference:

2 Corinthians 5:20
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Hebrews 13:14
14 For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.

1 Peter 2:11-12
11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. 12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

1 Timothy 6:17
17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

Ephesians 4:17-24
17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. 19 They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20 But that is not the way you learned Christ!— 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self,[a] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Questions to consider:

  • We are to be holy and set apart from the world yet interact and be accessible to the world. How does this work in your life?
  • What are early warning signs that you are beginning to adopt the world’s methodologies and mindsets?
  • What helps you to stay rooted and grounded in the Lord as you go out into the world?
